I get 'hotspots' in my Computer Room. Why and how can I get rid of
them?
| Hotspots can be caused by a number of factors:
-
Incorrect A/C units unable to create right airflow - Too much IT
equipment in a single rack - Wrong layout of racks/AC units in
your Computer Room - Too much IT equipment for the capacity of
the A/C units - Lack of height in the Computer Room, restricting
return air flow
In short, it all
comes down to the design of the room. To 'fix' the problem may
require anything from a simple layout change to a major
refurbishment. Best course of action is to get a survey
undertaken to review the Room, which will identify your exact issues
and the best and most econimcal way of fixing them. | |
What type of A/C should I have in my Computer Room?
| Well firstly, not wall or ceiling mounted units.
These are meant to cool people not IT. Because of their design you
only get 65% of the stated cooling capacity and it's difficult to
get the air flow model required.
Computer Rooms need full
function, close control, downflow systems, either DX or chilled
water. Another possibility is Chilled Racks (useful for high
density computing), but these tend to be more expensive overall than
the equivalent Downflow solution. |
